On an absolutely gorgeous fall Friday this past week, Sammy Herrera placed 41st out of 152 runners that qualified for the UIL State Cross Country meet. He represented Eastland with a great performance, outracing every District 8-AAA qualifier (Brock and Breckenridge) and four of the other eight qualifiers from the Region 1 meet he had lost to two weeks ago.
Sammy's season closes with some all time great performances, including setting a new school record at district with a first place time of 15:57, six seconds faster than current teammate Andrew Hicks most recent record. In all, Sammy placed first as an individual at three meets this season, helping pace the varsity boys team to first place finishes in two relay meets, and five team titles.
Congratulations on an outstanding season Sammy!
