The Maverick Varsity Boys XC made their first trip to the state meet a memorable one, finishing 6th out of the last 16 teams to advance. Andrew Hicks and Sammy Herrera, who had run at state individually over the past three seasons, led the team that was picked to finish 8th by the CCCAT poll conducted earlier in the week.
Miguel Hernandez was the third Maverick to cross the finish line followed by Glyn McCleskey, Jayton Wesley, Chase Clark and Paxton Brown. Coach Ebbs and Coach Lewis both had high praise for the athletes on their performance and the historic season.
The seniors, Hicks, Herrera, Wesley, and Clark, end their XC careers having helped the team win four consecutive district titles and four consecutive top 10 finishes at the regional meet in Lubbock. Hicks and Herrera were also selected to the 3A all Region team. Andrew finished his career earning his third All State team selection in as many appearances.
The coaches would like to say thank you to everyone who supported the program this season: “EABC, including our VP for cross country, Laura Hobbs, the parents as a whole, and those families and school personnel who traveled to watch the regional and state meets. The community support has been tremendous and we want to acknowledge everyone who helped!!”
