It was a very tough but rewarding day for Andrew at the state meet. The threatening weather that had been an issue a couple days before rolled on out and the sky was bright sunshine with little wind when the race began.

Andrew started off in the middle of the row of boxes at the start line. With 152 runners it was critical to get out and not get "boxed in" behind slower runners. Although he didn't get out as well as he wanted to, he began working his way back towards the lead pack. He was 35th after the first 800 meters, 24th at 1200, 20th at 1600, 15th at 3000, 15th at 3800, 13th at 4200. With only about 600 meters to go, Andrew was still holding 13th but was about 30 meters behind the three runners he needed to beat to finish with a top 10 medal. From the finish line angle in the video, you can see Andrew come around on the outside of the turn for the finish and run down the three runners to earn the 10th position by on .5 seconds to get the medal. It was a great effort on his part for the conclusion of a great cross country season.
Coach Ebbs and Coach Lewis are extremely proud of every runner in MS and HS for their work this season. This program has a bright future before it and they both look forward to working with the returning runners from this season, and the new faces that will step in to take part on the Maverick and Lady Mav XC teams. They would also like to thank all the parents who faithfully furnished water, food, and their time to make this season special. Special thanks to Mrs. Amy Lopez and Mrs. Candy Holt for organizing sendoff's, meals, and travel throughout the season.
