The Lady Mav & Maverick teams went to the Belton Invitational last Friday and ran hard at a very tough course against excellent competition. The girls were not able to field a complete team due to injuries and a volleyball tournament. Emily Ojeda, Brooke Ainsworth, and Annaliss Hicks competed very hard and were all able to lower there times by a minute or more to record their best time of the year.
The boys team of Brady Bramlett, Chase Clark, Samuel Cruz, Miguel Hernandez, Sammy Herrera, Andrew Hicks, and Jayton Wesley finished 6th overall in the boys 4A division out of 14 teams. Their times were not as good as last week on the harder course. Andrew & Sammy finished 2nd & 4th overall to lead the team.
It was also the first meet some of the JV boys raced. Unlike in the varsity divisions there was no separate 6A/5A and 4A/Under division. Keegan Williamson and Mikey Seabourn completed their first 5K race in their careers and represented the Mavs well. They were 78th & 91st respectively out of 181 runners. Had there been two divisions, they would have finished 8th & 13th respectively against 4A and under competitors.
This week the teams expect to be back at full strength and will run on Thursday at the James Smith Invitational, hosted by Midlothian ISD. The teams would like to express their gratitude to those who traveled to watch them race and provide goodies and water for before and after the races.
